Good morning!

This week I was energetic enough to run to the store on Sunday afternoon while the rest of the family took naps after many, many eggs hunts.  I was surprised that our local store was quiet.  I did see a few last minute shoppers buying candy, eggs and huge stuffed bunnies.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend.

I have changed my menu planning around a bit to try and incorporate at least two nights every week that we will eat from the pantry.  While I still have to shop for the other nights, I am also going to try and use the “Cook Once and Eat Twice” method more.  With summer almost upon us, we will be spending more time at the park and pool and mom will forget to get something out for dinner.  So I figure if I can start cooking my meat and freezing it in meal size portions, I will be able to pull together a meal in 30 minutes or less.

What do you do on those hot summer nights when you forget to plan ahead?

My shopping trip for the week looks like this,

Total $60.47 – $18.68 (coupons) = $41.79 OOP

I have some leftover from last week and this to take to Kmart to snag some deals with their Super Doubles Event.  I will get pictures and total of what I was able to pickup.

It looks like you are pretty lucky if you live near a Leekers/Checkers Store.  They are having their Double Dollar Days until March 30th.

Here is their weekly sales ad.

For the Mommas

This week wasn’t too bad except I forgot that ALL my kids are home ALL week.  That’s going to hit our food budget.  I don’t know where they  put the food!

Total $60.13 – $8.00 (coupons) = 52.13 OOP

As you can see I bought lots of apples this week since they were on sale for $.99 lb.  Not great, but something the kids can munch on between the 8 meals they eat.  I am also going to make homemade applesauce. I found Huggies wipes on closeout for $1.53 and I had coupons that made each tub only $.53.  I also found my milk on Manager’s special for $1.99 and the date to be sold by was 4/2!  I know I will have to run and hit the store again sometime this week.

I will be spending a little bit more for some last minute items needed for this weekend.

downsized_0315001045Not pictured – Lots of things for the cats.  (food, etc…)  I picked up more fruit at another store.  Our local store had the Healthy Balance Juice on sale for $1.69 with $.55 peelies on them making them $.69 each.  I picked up a few more bottles for my stockpile.  The Dannon yogurt was also free.  The four pack is $1.00 with a peelie for $1.00 off any multi-pack.  Go figure?!

Stockpiling – Meat

Do you wish you had meat on hand, so you could make a quick and easy meal without having to run to the grocery store?

In our 7 Secrets Class we spend time on teaching you how, when and why you need to stockpile.

One of the best things to stockpile is meat.

You can save tons of money by just by planning ahead.

  • Choose.  When you stockpile meat you need to choose meat that your family will eat.  I don’t buy bologna.  My family won’t eat it.  Even though there have been some great deals this past month, I would just be throwing my money away if I bought it.  Does your family eat more hamburger? Chicken?  Boneless, skinless white meat?  Think about the meals and cuts of meat you enjoy and watch for sales during the next 3 months.
  • Set the price. What is your rock bottom price you want to pay for your meat?  Make a goal price of you want to pay PER POUND.  When looking for meat, learn how to read those labels.  How many pounds are in the package?  How much is it per pound?  Is there a discount for using your loyalty card?  Once you know your price per pound, you can start looking for deals that fit in your budget.
  • Network!  I buy 75% of my meat from a friend.  She works at a large food corporation that has Friends and Family sale every three months.  I pay around $1.85 per lb for 85/15 ground round hamburger meat.  This past month I was also about to pick up 10 lbs of pork chops for $1.09 per lb.  If you don’t know of anyone who has access to a sale like this try and find someone who can keep an eye out for deals when they are shopping.  Many times I will call my networking buddies to let them know of a deal I have found and I will ask if they want me to pick up an extra item for them.
  • Use sales and coupons.  Companies and even local grocery stores are sending out more and more coupons for meat.  I can get sausage for free and a 3 lb roast for $.33, just by using a few coupons that are floating around out there.  Make sure you keep an eye out for these.

How do you stockpile meat?  Think about using one tip to help you this next month.

Happy Savvy Saving!

This week Dillons had a three day sale I really wanted to hit.  My kids love asparagus and we only buy it during the spring when it is on sale.

Total $82.34 – $24.70 (coupons) = $57.64 OOP

Disclaimer – I will go over budget this week.  I forgot to buy a few things at the store, but I think I can keep it under $5.00.  I hope!

downsized_0308001014 I usually don’t buy so much juice, but I found a really good deal on Healthy Balance Juice.  It has half the sugar of your regular juice.  On sale the 64oz bottle was $1.78 and there were $.55 /1 coupon hanging off the product.  $.78 for 64 oz of juice, not bad and it will be a good surprise for the kids.  I also picked up Gold Medal Flour for $.99 each.

Did you find any good deals this week?  Let us know.
